Dr A. Jean Ayres was an Occupational Therapist, who completed post-graduate education psychology. She was the first person to suggest difficulties registering, interpreting and responding to sensory information could interfere with activities of everyday life, calling her newly developing theory Sensory Integration. She also clearly described ‘sensory integration dysfunction and developed ways to assess and address these difficulties, calling it ‘Sensory Integration Therapy’.
Our therapists hold post graduate certificates in Ayres Sensory Integration Practitioners and are highly experienced in completing sensory assessments in schools, homes and hospitals. We are experienced in dealing with sensory issues and trauma, feeding difficulties and sleep issues amongst other sensory related difficulties.
Assessments are guided by Ayres Data Driven Decision Making Tool (DDSM). We use gold standard assessment tools (Ayres Clinical Observations and appropriate Sensory profiles amongst others). Our therapists have additional training on other sensory related difficulties like trauma and sensory difficulties, sensory feeding difficulties and issues with sleep and sensory issues. All of our therapists are supervised by an Advanced Sensory Integration Practitioner.
We discuss cases using a full multi disciplinary team with consideration of the differential diagnoses. Outcomes are shared with adult/child, parents and school where appropriate.
